Xiaomi Launches 5G Flagship Smartphone Mi 9 Pro and Full-Screen TV Pro

Xiaomi officially launched its 5G flagship smartphone Mi 9 Pro, a 5G variant of Mi 9 launched more than half a year ago in February 2019. Alongside the smartphone, Xiaomi also introduced its full-screen TV pro. Additionally, the leading smartphone maker also showcased its latest operating system MIUI 11 and Mi Mix Alpha concept smartphone.

Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro is an upgraded version of Mi 9. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ SoC with 12GB RAM and supports three telecom carriers - China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom in China. The smartphone supports N41, N78, and N79 which are all sub-6GHz bands. It also comes with 7 antenna design for 5G reception.

The download speed was up to 2.02Gbps in lab test and 1.78 Gbps in field test, 10 times faster than 4G speed. It is capable of downloading 100 songs in as little as 3 seconds and the popular mobile game Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds which uses 1.89G in smartphone memory in as little as 15 seconds.

Mi 9 Pro adopted the vapor chamber (VC) liquid cooling technology and sports five layers of graphite sheet.

The smartphone is equipped with 3 different ways of charging. First, the Mi Charge Turbo at 40W, which is able to charge 20% of the battery in only 5 minutes and the full battery in 48 minutes. Second, it supports 30W fast wireless charging tech which is claimed to charge to full battery in 69 minutes or to 50% in 25 minutes. Third, reverse wireless charging, that it is able to charge other devices such as iPhone, other Android smartphones, or Xiaomi wireless earbuds.

The smartphone weights 196g and comes with a 6.39-inch AMOLED display. It has triple rear cameras, which contain a 48MP main camera with Sony’s IMX586 sensor, a 16MP ultra wide-angle camera, and a 12MP telephoto camera.

The Mi 9 Pro will have NFC functions with support for eID which allows users to easily check in for a flight, hotel, or open car doors. Xiaomi has already partnered with Chinese EV startup Xpeng to allow vehicle keyless entry by just placing the Mi 9 pro on the recognition area on the car door. Xiaomi is also looking forward to cooperating with more motor companies.

The Mi 9 Pro retails for RMB 3,699, RMB 3,799, RMB 4,099, and RMB 4,299 respectively for 8GB+128GB, 8GB+256GB, 12GB+256GB, 12GB+512GB variants (USD 1 = RMB 7.11).

The smartphone will come with the latest MIUI 11 OS out-of-the-box.
